“For bees, the flower is the fountain of life For flowers, the bee is the messenger of love” —Kahlil Gibran
The bee has been a symbol for the goddess across the world and throughout time. She represents the matriarchal archetype as the Queen Bee— her hive a feminine community of harmonious service and devoted hard work for the benefit of others. The amber colored nectar we know as honey not only has the sweetness of heart that poetry has honored throughout time but is well known for its healing properties. Jars of honey have been found, perfectly preserved from thousands of years back—a testament to the sacred timelessness of the gifts it brings.
The Merovingian kings of the Holy Grail are known to have had a profound relationship with bees— taking the honey bee as the symbol for their lineage. Their high regard for the alchemical properties and sacred geometry of the honeycomb, held the view that its hexagonal prisms were evidence of divine harmony and community in nature. In ancient Delphi, Bees were oracles and dear to Venus—the goddess of love—and associated with insight and wisdom by the ancient Egyptians. Many invoke the nature goddess Artemis of Ephesus— who wears a dress adorned by bees—to deepen their relationship with the sacred magic of the honeybee.
The work of pollinating, bringing beauty to flower and sweetness into our lives is a divine work— one for which we can give thanks to honey bee.
