Endless Knot Earrings
Common to many traditions, from Islamic to Celtic to Tibetan, the Endless knot is a symbol of longevity, devotion, love and harmony. The two intertwining cords represent the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha—without beginning and without end.
The Sanskrit term for the endless knot is shrivatsa, which means “beloved of Shri”. Shri refers to the Hindu goddess Laxmi, Vishnu’s consort. In this legend, the shrivatsa is an auspicious curl of hair adorning Vishnu’s chest in the shape of the endless knot. The symbol sitting over his heart represents the devotion he feels for Laxmi. Since Laxmi is the goddess of wealth and good fortune, the shrivatsa also means curl of happiness, and is a symbol of good luck.
